Astrid's soulmate is a fantastic artist- the proof shows up on her skin daily, so much so that it interrupts her entire life. While the work is beautiful, she struggles to reconcile her bitterness that her skin never feels like her own.
Hiccup, a dreamer and an outcast, pines after Astrid even though he knows it's wrong to covet someone that's not meant for him. He finds refuge in his art, and surely if there was someone out there for him, wouldn't they have responded by now?
