Harumasa rested his cheek on his palm before continuing, liquid gold glazed with contemplation. “Your Captain’s soulmate is the Chief, and Tsukishiro’s is your co-worker. Do you see the pattern?”
Seth frowned, thoroughly confused. “What pattern?”
“Tsukishiro and Miyabi work at H.S.O., and the other two are with PubSec. And since you’re associated with the latter…” He trailed off, waiting for the implication to settle.
The rookie officer gave the other man an unimpressed stare. “Are you saying my soulmate might be affiliated with H.S.O.?”
“It’s very likely, isn’t it?” Harumasa asked, a teasing lilt to his voice.

“Oh, it's Scar’s newest bit,” Grian answered casually. It was definitely nothing that warranted that sort of reaction, didn't even make top 5 of craziest things Scar had done. Maybe not even top 10. He flattened the shopping district overnight just a few weeks ago.
“His newest bit…” Gem shook her head, recomposing herself. “Can you please explain what exactly is the bit?” Before Grian could reply, she added: “From the very beginning, with as many details as possible. What is wrong with you two?”(or: Scar rehearses to get the best love confession)

Frozen in shock, Yanagi watched as Miyabi nodded solemnly like a monk aligning chakras and raised her own hands.
“Six,” she began, lifting her left hand slightly higher than her right.
Yanagi felt her soul leave her body.
“...seveeeeen,” she finished softly, bringing her right hand upwards. She closed her eyes, breathing deeply as her hands flowed rhythmically. After what felt like a millennium, Miyabi opened her eyes again, nodding in approval.
“...Excellent,” she said, with a hint of a satisfied smile on her face. “We will incorporate this into our daily training.”
Beside her, Harumasa went pale, and Yanagi wondered if resignation letters could be filed retroactively.
In which Harumasa teaches Sokaku how to say six seven, and it backfires on them all. horrendously.
