Summary
General Sam Lane has never liked Superman, or trusted him. When news of the Quantum Unfolding Chamber becomes public, he sees the perfect opportunity to drive a wedge between his daughter and the alien she loves. With the help of Lex Luthor, he devises a plan to isolate Clark, turn the people he loves against him, and push him past his breaking point. What follows leaves Clark questioning his worth, his place, and everything he's ever meant to the world, and her.

Here's the thing about Clark Kent that nobody knew:

No, these were different. These were survival rules, developed over years of trial and error, designed to keep him sane in a world where he would never quite belong.-
Clark Kent is perfect, ridiculously good looking, and completely commitment-phobic—he has to be, so he can be the Superman everyone needs. Until he meets Lois Lane, who fucks everything up in less than 24 hours. Except she doesn’t remember any of it.

She remembers Peeta’s words on the rooftop then, when the Games seemed like the largest challenge they would have to face, when the only enemy they had was the Careers. I keep wishing I could think of a way to show the Capitol that they don’t own me. That I’m more than just a piece in their Games. She would find some way to make it possible, she promised herself. She would make sure that Coin and Plutarch didn’t make Peeta a puppet to another organisation of war.
Freedom was an abstract concept in District 12. You couldn’t preach freedom if you died of hunger, if you were too exhausted to do more then head down into the mines every day, but Peeta deserved this freedom.
After all he’d been through for her, she would make sure of it.

But maybe he doesn't have to, because one day Jordie comes home from university, scared and dishevelled and haunted, and the only thing he says is: "I saw him. I swear by Ghezen, I saw Kaz."
A little part of David has always had a bit of hope that Kaz is somehow alive- they never did see his dead body, after all. He just never assumed that his little boy was the infamous nightmare of Ketterdam they call Dirtyhands.

Normally the alarm bells would be going off in Kaz’s mind. A strange letter from someone claiming Fjerdan royal heritage? What was the catch? But the country’s seal wasn’t a forgery, and the quality of the paper and ink told Kaz that if this was some elaborate ruse, someone had gone to great lengths to convince him. It was what he would do, but this didn’t smell like a scheme.
Perhaps the Fjerdans need something from old Dirtyhands for once, he thought with a smirk.
Or: Kaz gets a strange summons down to the docks from the Fjerdan royal family one night. It's not what he expects.
