With tensions rising and posing a threat to the kingdom, it's decided that Steve needs someone else to make sure the prince, the heir to the throne, remains safe. Nevermind that it's because his father doesn't think that he can handle himself.
Neither he nor James seem all that thrilled about their current situation, but things begin to change between them soon enough. Steve starts to think that perhaps James is the first person to really see him for who he is, and he's not sure what he's supposed to do with that.
