Summary for 'The Strain of Breathing':
The monsters come at nightfall. Steve is used to the cold sweat at the nape of his neck, the fear clinging to his heart. He tries not to be overpowered by it. His breathing becomes flatter as the shadows of the trees grow on the lawn in the backyard of his childhood home. It doesn't matter where he is on Earth; the monsters are always lurking in the dark, ready to form a close circle around him the moment the horizon has swallowed the sun. He would be worried if they didn't come. -

Summary
When Grace Williams comes online due to a traumatic event, Danny has only one thought - to get to his daughter. But the Sentinel and Guide Centre say he can't see her - because Danny is offline.
Steve always thought he'd be alone. The Navy had tried, but they'd never been able to match him with a compatible Guide who could keep up with either his SEAL or Sentinel self. So he was content to push his senses down and live as though he wasn't a Sentinel.
But Steve will do anything for Danny, and Grace. And Danny will do anything for his daughter.
