Summary
[Kept up for posterity/archiving purposes, but oh boy my writing was not the greatest back then.]
In which Gravity Falls is sentient (and sapient) and saves Dipper's life when Bill tries to possess him during the start of the Transcendence. Rather than becoming a demon, Dipper becomes a living bridge between the mindscape and the waking world, and their respective somewhat-benevolent forests. The results are, initially, a highly spatially aware mostly-human twelve-year-old with a very green thumb and an impressive repertoire of magic tricks. Then things get steadily worse. Summary
At the end of Infinitesimal Variations, a newly semi-reconciled Ford and Stan Pines had allied with Soos Ramirez and, to a mutually reluctant extent, Agent Powers in a last-ditch effort to end the Weirdpocalypse before it could spread. Meanwhile, Dipper and Mabel, along with Old Man McGucket and his son Tate, were trapped inside the city limits, whereabouts unknown. Now, the Pines-McGucket party struggles to survive in the wasteland while the Pines-Ramirez-Powers party heads out on a quest, searching for the information they need to save their families and/or the world and trying to get killed by neither wildlife nor each other. Along the way, they all encounter old friends, old enemies, and others, all while trying to answer questions like: how can the weirdness be combated or avoided? Where and who are the survivors? And as the stakes grow ever higher: who can anyone trust?

Summary
For Dipper and Mabel Pines, the summer of 2012 was an amazing, awe-inspiring, sometimes terrifying, life-changing experience. For their parents, though, that same summer was a time which gradually became...strange. Not to mention slightly concerning. It was easy enough to dismiss pieces of Mabel's letters as creative writing done to distract herself from presumed boredom, but they found it harder to rationalize away the wild stories that came with snippets of evidence...and that was all before a boat crashed into their rhododendrons.
