When Aunt May dies, Peter and Ben have to think about a downsize.
The idea of actually moving isn’t the difficult part. Peter isn’t like Ned or MJ, who have grown up in the same houses all their lives. Peter, Ben, and May had moved twice since he came to live with them, so he has never attached too many memories to the spaces he’s left behind. Home is where the heart is, and all that. Peter would have the three of them live in the smallest studio Queens has to offer if it meant getting Aunt May back. Stuff doesn’t matter.

Toni was six the first time she saw the other girl. She was a blonde, about Toni’s age, if a bit younger. It was some big gala no ten-year-old was going to care about, and Toni had naturally drifted to what few other peers her age were there. The other little girl the blonde caught her eye. Not because Toni wanted to talk to her necessarily, but because she had a look in her eyes, one robbed of innocence that haunted Toni in ways she couldn’t explain.
When the little blonde slipped something in a big man’s drink and he was found dead the next morning, Toni wasn’t really surprised. There was just something about her that Toni might not have understood, but did know to be dangerous. The little girl with the green eyes was just that.
Dangerous.

He slumps with something akin to relief. “Oh- that’s. That’s cool. I’m really sorry to ask-“ and he looks it, wincing and pulling his own fingers, “-but would it be okay if I sit with you? My mamma is in a formaggeria across the piazza and I desperately don’t want to stand in there and smell cheese for an hour so I was gonna grab an espresso but every other table is filled and I don’t want to impose but—?” He looks at her. He is sharp, ardent with a wisdom that puts her teeth on edge. No young man should look like that: as if he has stared straight into the barrel of a gun and laughed at the bullet, swallowed it whole.
He looks old for his age. He just. He looks.
