Summary

Summary
The war is over, and the Sully’s and Spider continue to live with the Metkayina. Spider, even now with his new ‘Eywa appointed blessings’ doesn’t fit in. He tries to stay out of the Metkayina people’s way. It had taken Neytiri years to warm up to him, and while she’d finally accepted and seen him, it had taken her his whole life. There was next to no hope of the Metkayina accepting him. But the Sully’s start acting strange, and so do the Metkayina people. They’re all watching out for him, helping him… looking after him.

Jake seemed to see something in her face, because he looked between her and Tuktirey and then shifted closer. “Hey, do you wanna hold her? It looks like she likes you already.”
Her eyes widened, mouth falling agape, before she found her eyes flickering around her in watch of Neytiri. She didn't notice that Jake watched her do this, his own face flickering with something unrecognizable. “Um, I'm not sure if. . .”
“It's okay, Spider,” Jake told her gently. “Here, hold your arms out.”
(Or, female Spider has known from the very beginning that she will never be part of the Sully family, but it doesn't stop her from wanting it desperately.)

Summary
Five years after the war, everybody thinks Spider dead. Except he never was, taken by the RDA to experiment on instead. And as they find him in the poorest mental and physical state, alone in a dark cell of an unknown bunker, Jake is forced to face the consequences of his neglect, maybe too late. And he's not the only one. Spider's reappearance will put the whole Sully family to the test. For better or for worse.
“Jakesully,” one of them called, “Is the tawtute going to be ok?”
Jake took a deep breath. Beside him, Spider had started laughing to himself, displaying his rotten teeth and Jake felt sick again to see how bad Spider’s physical state was.
“No.”
No, Spider was not going to be ok. And there was a high chance he might never be ok again. But one thing was certain, he wasn’t going to abandon him a second time.

Spider hissed and all Quaritch could see was his baby boy’s face stretching into a cruel snarl that too closely resembled that of his worst enemy.
It was then that Quaritch decided that he simply couldn’t allow Spider to escape. He couldn’t allow him to regroup with those creatures—those beasts. He couldn’t allow his son to become any more like them than he already was. He just couldn’t.
