Paul ascends to the throne of the Known Universe while the holy war engulfs humanity. However, like in the book, he spent 3 years with the Fremen and has truly become one of them. What Paul wants above all is the love of his life back, which is exactly what the man worshipped as a god cannot have, as Chani moves on with someone else and Paul is heartbroken as a result. Pressured by Jessica, suffocated by imperial politics, torn between his love for Chani and his grief at losing her, haunted by the consequences of his actions, Paul descends deeper into his own darkness, threatening to drag Irulan, who has a secret of her own, down with him. Irulan might be the nominal prisoner but is any of them truly free? And can either of them find a sliver of light as darkness and war start to consume everyone and everything?
