Mu Qing was standing on Xie Lian’s other side, nose turned up in that usual disaffected way of his, and Feng Xin had never looked at that expression and felt relief before now. Because he was certain that moments ago, they had been on the battlefield, Mu Qing bloodied from wounds going limp in his arms, and—
And then, like a dream, it ended.
Was it a dream? None of it felt like one, but dreams were like that sometimes… never mind that he remembered feeling the heat of the flames, the grit of the battlefield, the smell of blood, all as if it was real.
“What the fuck was that?” Feng Xin asked. To his embarrassment, his voice cracked when he spoke, and he hastily lifted a hand to check that there weren’t tears in the corners of his eyes.
