Lydia is still in her hometown, a place known for soybeans and unplanned pregnancies, eating string cheese straight from the bag. Matt is there too, circling the drain while unsuccessfully trying to ignore that fact. Broke and pathetic, they find themselves unexpectedly brought together for the first time since high school when Lydia hires a "professional cuddler" from an app called Spooners that turns out to be Matt himself, an old high school crush and source of a great deal of embarrassing memories. Neither one is in a good place, but after an illuminating series of events during their disastrous appointment they find themselves in each others debt- Lydia needs Matt to pretend to be her boyfriend for a dinner with her roommate, and Matt needs her for the same reason to make a recently ex-girlfriend, Amanda, jealous.
