The first month that Hakuji spends at the dojo, his anger still simmers deep inside of him. A pot bordering on boiling, kissing the rim like a threat. He is still angry and childish and terrified.
He’s not afraid of Keizo. He’s not afraid of anyone—not anymore. He’s fought too hard, endured too much to be afraid. He would fight until his knuckles bled, until his lungs reached their limit to bursting, until he was unable to move before he allowed fear to control him. That was easier than seeing the corners of Keizo’s mouth lifted in a warmhearted smile, easier than seeing the flush of Koyuki’s face when he fixed the pins in her hair.
Keizo was kind, he was firm like the impassivity of a statue touched by moss and overgrowth. Koyuki, delicate but as determined as a withering flower in the winter, was radiant. As long as Hakuji worked, he was fed and allowed to train in the dojo, housed under a roof that never leaked, with bedding that he never used.
What he truly feared now was loss.
(Or, Hakuji's three years spent in the Soryu dojo with the people he loved most.)

Sue says nothing.
She lowers herself down until she is kneeling at Emily’s feet, looking up at her with doe-eyed reverence. The position change, however slight, makes Emily feel heady with desire. Sue’s mouth is perfectly positioned between her thighs, and she resists the urge to shift her legs together for any form of friction.
Sue closes her eyes for the first taste.
