Bewildered, Fenris hums, and the silence returns interrupted only by the rhythmic puffs of air. Sleep is gone, for now. Tired as he is, he can feel its absence in the persistent throb of blood, in Anders’s strange mood still thick and tangible in the cooling room. Fenris rearranges his body into a more comfortable position, and like a natural echo of his movement, Anders rolls close grazing his shoulder with a damp mouth.
“I don’t want to fight with you,” he murmurs against his skin.
“What should we do instead?” asks Fenris this time. -

Summary
Life after war has much more politics than Gimli thought, and much less Legolas than he would like, but the latter he knows (or believes) he has to get used to. Or: Legolas leaps, occasionally stumbling, into a new age, while Gimli can't see the wood for the (green)leaf.
"How do your people court then?"
The question was not as abrupt as it would seem, firstly because the news that his brother was courting had clearly left Legolas in deep thought for a number of days, secondly because Legolas had long ago confessed his curiosity about the lives and customs of Gimli's kin, and thirdly because Legolas' grace was well-known to be in his light feet and not his manners.
However, Gimli saw no reason to let him have his own way entirely. "And by my people do you mean the Longbeards, or the Dwarves of Erebor, or the wandering mender that I now seem to be?"
"I meant," Legolas said, "wandering jesters."

Summary
Gimli, Lord of Aglarond, hasn't seen his friend Legolas of Ithilien for eight years—but the image of his unclothed body and a memory of withdrawn intimacy has been imprinted on his mind ever since. Determined to accept his friend’s rejection, it has taken every ounce of his iron control to keep his distance.
Now Legolas has asked him for his company on a journey to the Grey Havens, and in honor of their old friendship, Gimli determines to aid him without letting his feelings get in the way. But his body and heart refuse to listen to his urgings, and over the course of a journey, those feelings only grow stronger.
And perhaps, in the end, the strength of his care will be enough to save them both.
