Summary
My first ao3 work, so bear with me-
What do you do when you wake up in a cave with less memories than you'd prefer to have? An adventure with people you just met, probably. The original goal was to discover why Yukire gained magic as a normal swordswoman, but plans can change quickly when drastic events occur.I have little motivation to write lol so uh this will probably have a ton of changes to it throughout the process.
This is an original story; no fandoms tied to it. The overall story had inspiration from stories/worlds like Frieren, Fullmetal Alchemist, Lord of the Rings (or any fantasy world similar to it) and probably some others I forget.
Also, while romance is not the primary focus, there will be some romantic subplots (I love my ocs so much they deserve to love each other too, platonically and romantically)The content warning of graphic violence is also not to be taken too seriously. I haven't written any of the violence yet, but I do plan for it to be rather descriptive so I put it just in case. It will not show up for quite a few chapters.

His eyes were pleading even without the light of the sunset to emphasize his distress. It was as if everything fell silent, all cues of the outdoors gone quiet all at once. The crickets had hushed. The wind was gone. Even the swashing of the bay, the sway of the grass, the calls and squacks of the gulls– absent.

Summary
Months after being drugged and kidnapped, Reki lives his young adult life on an olden ship, slaving away as part of a crew he despises. He's not a very good pirate. With a fear of drowning and a strange thought process, he's only given minimal tasks, like sewing, and carpentry, and occasionally fishing. His life out on the ocean is plain, and unenjoyable.
That is until one of the crew's fishing nets catches something big, with shiny blue scales and fair skin all at the same time. A mermaid. Or, merman, in this case. Regardless, this creature's very existence is enough to make Reki think he's officially lost it.
The crew keeps the creature in a small, wooden tank among the ship, telling Reki specifically not to interact with it. The Captain's plan for the creature? Use its scales for money and the creature itself for his own gain. A cruel plan no matter how you look at it.
Despite the various warnings Reki received, he doesn't listen, trying different ways to gain the creature’s trust, trying to get it to talk to him... if it can even talk, let alone in a language he can understand.
Maybe an unlikely friendship will occur? Or maybe even something more?

An alternate timeline of "With Our Hands, Covered in Wounds" where Mizuki ultimately chose to keep running away from Ena. From that moment on, their trajectories diverged, seemingly for good. Each subsequent step Mizuki took, literal and figurative, served to further push herself apart from Ena and Nightcord at 25:00 as a whole. She believed that doing so was the only way to 'save' them from her own self.
But, in spite of everything that happened, Ena's love and determination would never truly fade away. Surely, she would one day get a chance to convey her true feelings to Mizuki, right?
