Summary
Drift can feel a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. She turns to Avid, who is looking at her expectantly. When she shakes the envelope over the table, there is a clatter, and many, many small ruby-red pieces of rosygold come falling out.
“Avid.” Drift says triumphantly. “I think we have a case."
He lets out a little whooping sound.
(OR: The year is 1899. London has long since been consumed by the darkness of the Neath. The Unterzee stretches out like a hungry mouth; far to the South, the Ministry of Public affairs build a god; and in the North, something sleeps and dreams and waits, patient and inevitable, to be awoken.
However, this is not that story. Drift is an amateur detective working the streets of London with an amnesiac roommate and very little hope for the future. But when the mysterious Apo Apokuna contacts her asking to find a missing ally, things start to get much, much more serious.
Fear is one thing. Bravery is quite another. But if she wants to stay alive and stay human, Drift is going to have to figure it out- and quick. Because there are some things that cannot be changed.
And there are some reckonings that cannot be avoided.)

Summary
When Cleo leans forwards, her forehead rests on the top of Pearl’s shoulder, and their hand is grasped blindly in Pearl’s own. She can feel her too-slow, steady heartbeat through the twitch of her wrists, the slope of her neck. Arteries and veins. Not quite human- but not quite inhuman either.
Cleo has to bite back another sigh. It has been a month since the last massacre of Oakhurst, and they have both been trying to settle into a new normal. Normal being a very… subjective word.
(OR: One month since the end of Oakhurst, Pearl and Cleo try to make a home out of the ashes. This is much more difficult than it sounds, especially when chickens stop being able to sate Cleo's hunger.)

AND AELFRIC MADE MAN AND AELFRIC MADE DAEMON: AND THEN AELFRIC SAID, NO MAN SHALL EVER BE ALONE AS LONG AS HE WALKS THIS WORLD, FOR I SHALL WALK ALONGSIDE HIM, AND NO MAN SHALL EVER BE WITHOUT COUNCIL, FOR I WILL BE THERE TO GUIDE HIM, AND NO MAN SHALL EVER BE WITHOUT CONFIDANTS, FOR I WILL BE THERE TO HEAR HIM. FOR I AM THE GOLDEN DUST, AND I AM THE GOLDEN DREAM, AND I AM THE LOVE THAT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.
(OR: In a world very similar to the one you may know, daemons aren't that big of a deal, most of the time. Our travellers are, as always, exceptions to the rule. In which Agnea dances with six feet; Castti completely fails at identifying birds; Osvald plots with a co-conspirator; Temenos relearns faith; Partitio has a strange interview; Throné hunts some snakes; Hikari has a breakthough; and Ochette thinks her friends are deeply confusing people.)

Summary
Ms. Curnow was nice, Emily decided.
Not that her other teachers had not been nice, of course. The daughter of the Empress had only ever met the best scholars of the Isles.
But Ms. Curnow was nice in a way they hadn't quite been. She did things like this for her student: pointing her to her favorite part of the song, saving the music lesson for last, as a treat, because she knew how Emily liked it.

Summary
“You’re in Asphodel.” She doesn’t know how to respond. It wasn’t a question. He takes his hands out of his pocket. His nails are coated in black, and a thick band of metal is on one of his fingers. He’s twisting it like a bottlecap. Hazel looks away. “I can get you out of here,” he says. He’s still twisting, brown eyes unfocused and glazing.
Hazel’s lungs are filled with water. “What?”
“The Doors of Death are open. You can leave.” Hazel doesn’t know what the doors are, but he’s looking at her now and she knows he isn’t lying. She knows she can follow him, she knows it by the cold feeling down her spine. She can do it.
“Okay.”
He nods. “Let’s go.”
Nico brings Hazel to Camp Jupiter from Asphodel.

Summary
If he were a better wizard, a smarter one, he'd know how to dispel it. He'd know - he'd know how to fight, or flee, or turn back time and tell Aranessa not to open the door. He'd know what to do right now, but he doesn't, he doesn't know what to do, he's just so scared. So Occtis thrashes in place, struggles wildly beneath the immaterial grip of a dozen shadow-soaked hands.
It doesn't work. He isn't going to get away. But at least he won't have made it easy for them.
