    Summary

Lan Wangji swallows with a click. He can tell exactly when Wei Ying realises what he was trying to do, when his soft, pleased smile shifts into something small, unsure, teetering on not understanding.
    Then, it’s all grief.
Wei Ying’s lower lip begins to tremble. His eyes are turning glassy in a way that’s unrelated to his fever, shining with stark hurt.
    “Lan Zhan?”
Heart a choking lump in his throat, Lan Zhan’s mouth moves on its own, panic rushing in, as he stutters, “I can explain—”
But Wei Ying almost seems to sink into himself, retreating inwards, and smaller and smaller; his fingers curl into the damp sand by his palms. He’s shaking.
    “You were leaving.”

or: after a long period of preheat, merxian goes into the real thing. this would be fine, if lan wangji knew what was happening. instead, he somehow assumes that wei ying is dying a miserable, inevitable feverish death. thankfully, they eventually figure things out, and have awesome sex about it.

    Summary

The wind was awfully cold for summer— sharp, biting, strong enough to rock the little boat until it creaked like a dying thing. Strange, Wei Wuxian thought distantly, watching the black water lap against the hull. But then again, what was not strange anymore?

It had been the worst monsoon anyone could remember— an unending cycle of storms that had turned their land into a grave of drowned things. The Yangtze had never been a gentle river, but it had never been this cruel either. It had moods: everyone with a brain knew so. Yet, this was no longer temper alone. This was rage, overtaken and unrelenting, without an end in sight.

It did not surprise him when the elders gathered beneath the flooded pavilions and declared that the river god must be appeased— that someone must be offered to still its wrath. This barbaric act of giving a God human brides felt like an inevitability: and, for such thoughts, Wei Wuxian stood before they could call for volunteers. His voice almost sounded calm, though his hands had been trembling behind his back in despair.

Better him than one of them. Always him, rather than them.

    Or

Wei Wuxian had never expected to have a dragon for a groom.

    Summary

In a world where monsters reeking of negative energy run rampant, humanity has been forced to reside within cities protected by powerful barriers. These barriers are carefully guarded, and maintained by a Barrier Master. Only an idiot would try living outside of a barrier, and only a moron would be caught outside one at night.

Which Wei Wuxian supposed made him both. Still, it wasn't like anyone was going to notice him out here. He'd worked too hard for that, burying his talents and skills for the sake of peace in the Jiang Household. They probably though he was still living in their garage, not in a tent in the woods. And Wei Wuxian would keep it that way, remaining unnoticed until he graduated from the College of Cultivation and landed a job.

At least that was a plan until the Heir to the Barrier himself fell from the sky and crashed into his tent.

    Summary

The thing was, Wei Ying wasn't always chaos in feline form. Most of the time he was a perfectly normal human, or at least, as normal as a werecat could be. As normal as anyone could be if they were forced to spend three nights every lunar month in a cat-shaped body.

And besides, it wasn't as though Wei Ying wanted to be a part time cat. He didn't. The moon nights were an inconvenience to be endured, and the rest of the time, he was as human as possible and that was that as far as he was concerned.

Meeting Lan Zhan in cat form was entirely accidental.

"So it's a bet?" Jiang Cheng said. "Dance the showcase if you get him, fancy coffee machine if you don't?"

Wei Wuxian considered the machine. "Fine. You're on. I want it in red."

"Don't start planning your caffeine overdose yet."

"It's in the bag," Wei Wuxian said cheerfully. "There's no way they'll match me with someone like Lan Wangji."

Teaching Lan Wangji to dance in front of the nation for twelve weeks, how hard can that be? Wei Wuxian is about to find out.
