Summary
If the star crossed lovers from district 12 never went into the games, if they were never pitted against each other, doomed to fight and kill each other, if their stars weren’t crossed at all, what would have happened anyway?
Keeping Katniss's family fed without tesserae is not easy and Peeta's parents are pushing him to marry a merchant girl as soon as possible. The best way to escape starvation and a prison of a marriage is to marry each other, but that would require Katniss to let go of a promise she made to herself a long time ago, to never marry anyone.

AU-Claire ends up in 1743 and cannot get back. Not totally the worst thing when one considers she was in an unhappy marriage. Anyhow she is not found by anyone and so she rolls up her sleeves, works as a healer and builds a life in a small village on the cusp of Clan McKenzie. All of which is ruined when two small red headed children running from English forces are found in her garden.
AU in which Jamie is a single Dad to Faith and Brianna and Claire inevitably ends up helping his children flee from the law.

In a particularly harsh winter in 12, Katniss is once again finding that she is tied to Peeta Mellark, that he can bring her a sense of hope without even meaning to. When she winds up working in his family's bakery, she doesn't want to get to know him, doesn't want to add to the incalculable debt she feels she owes him. But she can't help but grow to appreciate him, even despite herself.
