This FAQ explains how to use user-created tools on one's browser, such as userscripts and bookmarklets, for features AO3 itself does not yet offer. It also includes a list of such tools.
Despite what that page says, you can have userscripts on some mobile browsers. Firefox (on Android) has add-ons and many have mobile compatibility, including Tampermonkey and Greasemonkey. The same cannot be said about Firefox on iOS, due to restrictions placed by Apple, as explained by this article on the Mozilla support site. However, I do believe there is a way to implement userscripts on the Safari browser for iOS, though I cannot personally test it. If anyone knows more about this, please let me know, so I can add the information here.
Particularly useful filter-related tools from that list include:
AO3 Saved Filters enables you to save global filters for the entire site (e.g. "language_id: en OR language_id: es" shows only works in English or Spanish) or filters for a specific fandom. It works with the tag ID method linked above, so use that, when possible, so your saved filters will not be affected by any changes in tag names. (For example, "-filter_ids:20940" excludes works with the (Arthurian) "Merlin/Arthur Pendragon" tag.) I would note that, at least with the Firefox browser, I had to switch userscript managers from Greasemonkey to Tampermonkey for the AO3 saved filters to work.
AO3 Tracking enables you to save any search/filter and check for new fanworks in all your saved searches with a single click.
