Summary
When Van returns to sailing about a month post funeral she understands the need for punishment. She never hides the injuries, it’s pretty hard to hide things on a ship still adjusting to a new captain, a new boatswain and a new hierarchy. No, people know that she takes more hits than most in brawls or enemy boardings. They know that she throws herself in front of danger, but she just never lets them help.
There is a perfectly good medic on the ship that Van has sworn to never visit because it should have been her brother.
