Summary
Aiming to achieve Coral Release, 621 accepts the mission to eliminate V.III O'Keeffe, yet decides to spare their target at the last moment when they hear O'Keeffe call out Rusty's name.
This decision has consequences. Namely, it kicks off a chain reaction in which O'Keeffe finds a way to appropriate ALLMIND's Coral Release, morphing it into a historical event of an entirely different nature.
(A rewrite of the Alea Iacta Est ending, where the Rubicon Liberation Front gets to win. Is it too good to be true? Yes. That's why I'm trying to write it.)

Summary
Why do we fight? Quaint question.
A soldier fights, in the moment, for their comrades in arms. Nothing else matters when one is under enemy fire.
A people sends their sons off to die because of a belief in heroism. That through their glory and sacrifice the young men will live on forever as legends.
A nation declares war because of fear, pride, or self interest. Allegedly elected leaders and supposedly democratic governments behaving like kings of old.
A corporation contracts a private army because armed conflict is profitable. In war only warmongers benefit.
A warrior slave has no choice but violence.
Neither does the resistance fighter.
Hideo Kojima, this one is for you.

Summary
Megastructures are such a cute thought experiment.
Labor theory of value: man takes raw materials out of the ground, builds a tethered launch ring, from that labor we derive the value of the launch ring — roughly one or two orders of magnitude more than the BNP of 21st century Earth. There are things you simply cannot do as a civilization because there is only so many welders and metallurgists and machinists and construction workers.
Artificial intelligence busts that wide open. Not the smart kind that'll take over the world, just smart enough to take orders and build things. Dogs with opposable thumbs. Slap it in a robot, and you can teach it to do anything, up to and including robot maintenance. Lateral thinking not so much.
Now, if you're very, very lucky, you fix everything forever. Abolish scarcity, make a new golden age to last forever, freed from the specter of capitalism.
If not, you get a 3d printer that will only ever print you one of a thing, because you're not licensed to make two. It's how you build cargo transit towers to the stratosphere, so many they blot out the sun. It's how you get the commodification of the human soul.
Tsutomo Nihei, prophet of the lord.

Summary
In the aftermath of Fires of Raven, 621 finds an unlikely survivor among the ruins, and decides to save him from the brink of death. For reasons.
“Looks like you’ll live... for now. Not that it does you any good.”
“It’s just you and me now, V.II Snail. Except that’s not who you are anymore, is it? That revamped Balteus might have saved your life, but everyone else is either dead or gone.”
“One has to wonder who—or what—V.II Snail is without Arquebus.”

Summary
The problem with the Kardashev scale of civilization advancement is that it is dreadfully tedious to ascend each rung of the ladder. To even reach Class 1 you need to blanket every desert in solar panels, split the atom in every ounce of uranium, cover every coastline in turbines, and fuse every gram of deuterium. To reach Class 2, you need to disassemble entire planets just to get enough mass to fill the lower orbits of your home star with a titanic swarm of solar satellites.
If only there was a shortcut. A substance that you could just dig out of the ground. Wouldn't that be grand? Imagine if the oil of the North Sea burned as energetically as deuterium-helium-3 fusion, could advance computing in ways that put the invention of the semiconductor to shame, and made you telepathic if you injected it into your brain. Are you imagining it?
Now you have an inkling of what Coral is. Frank Herbert, eat your heart out.
