Neither of them noticed that the tiny spark of magic that had escaped Magnus's hand had settled itself over Alec's heart and dissolved into his body.

Summary
Newport, The Hamptons, playground of the rich and the place where Magnus grew up. A place that he'd always found stifling and restrictive only saved by one thing, his best friend Alec Lightwood. At least he was until it all went wrong and Magnus ran to London. Five years later and an invitation from Clary Fray and Isabelle Lightwood seems the perfect time to return and face up to the past. Little did he know that this weekend is the worst and possibly the best for his grand return.
Alec Lightwood, oldest son and heir has always felt the responsibility of his family's well being weighing heavily on him which is why he's doing what he is. He has no other choice that he can see. The last thing he needs is the return of his ex-best friend and the love of his life especially in this weekend. Magnus is the one person who could threaten to divert him from what he needs to do.
But it's only 48 hours and Alec is determined to fight his way through. Magnus is equally determined to show him that some sacrifices are far too great.

Summary
Alec was granted forever with Magnus and became imortal. Magnus warned him that loving mortals hurt but Alec hadn't been prepared for just how much it would tare at him seeing new generations grow up to grow old and disapear. He had never anticipated that forever could change so much and break his heart the way it sometimes does. Losing people are hard and it becomes harder and harder to love new people the more people he have already lost.
In where Alec is immortal and takes on the role of a guardian and protector of the NY Institute until there is too many people and too many generations to protect and losing people becomes a bit too much for the family caring Alexander Lightwood. (It is sad.)
