Sasha mutters when she’s frustrated, loud enough to be overheard, and Zolf doesn’t get mad at her for insubordination, just gives her that look like he knows she can do better. A laugh gets startled out of her, loud enough to give away her position from three blocks over, and Hamid just looks pleased that she liked his joke, if a little confused because he hadn’t meant it as a joke in the first place. Bertie—well, she can make as much of a ruckus as she’d like, and Bertie wouldn’t notice even if she dropped half of her new collection of daggers on him.
Point of all that is, she’s good at being quiet, certainly got enough practice with it in Barret’s house. Point of all that is, she’s been finding herself making a bit more noise these days.
Now, a couple adventures later and a meritocratic quest taking them to Paris and who-knows-where-else, she’s on a train—in first class!—leaving London behind for the first time in her life.

The kinds of people who end up locked in towers are often of the young, whimsical sort. Or at least, that’s the stereotype, and Barnes has never found much evidence to the contrary.
Barnes can’t really put his finger on why Prince Wilde is different. Maybe it’s how godsdamned miserable he looks. Or maybe it’s because Barnes has been reliably informed that the man is cursed, but he really, really doesn’t look it.
Those are usually the worst kind.
Wilde is a prince awaiting true love’s kiss in the highest room of the tallest tower. Zolf just wants to get everybody off his lawn. Or, a RQG Shrek AU.

They say the mariner broke his soul in to a thousand pieces and captured a sea witch to hunt each one down.
Zolf can't remember what it was like to ever have a soul.
Wilde can't remember the last time he was so entirely bound, and without Zolf's elaboration it's hard to even know why.
Either way the marniner's hospitality is cruel and violent, just like the sea witch is in return.

It’s the second, however, that holds Zolf’s attention steadfast.
He remembers drawing it, the smudged charcoal smeared in places where he hadn’t yet realized he couldn’t just place his forearm on the paper while sketching. It’s something he’d never really put much thought into, something to occupy long train voyages and dark nights where he knew nothing but nightmares awaited him. Something that required a bit less brainpower than reading, the motions repetitive and just mindless enough to be comforting without the risk of thinking too much.
OR
I still haven't recovered from how Zolf and Sasha's story ended, so I gave him a habit for drawing to make myself sad.
