Legends talk about war, humans decimating populations until sirens became a rare breed, now almost akin to myth. Known well to cause disasters to whoever might fall near their territories or sight, lured by beautiful songs, views, and memories, swallowing the daring into the deepest parts of the sea, never to be seen again, exactly in the same way, this village is now a bare footprint on the maps. A sad point where only hard waters and storms await, where fish and treasure are now scarce.
Just like kindness is.
And kindness… kindness is not something Suguru has experienced much in his thirteen years of life.

He came every evening as the sun bled orange into the horizon. A man with long, dark hair, always tied back, wearing billowing fabrics that danced in the wind. Satoru would watch, his blue eyes unblinking, tracking the rhythmic movement of the human’s legs. He usually walked along the shore, sometimes stopping to look out at the water with a melancholy expression that Satoru could feel deep in his own chest.
But as he watched the human now perched on a rock, sighing a sound that vibrated strange and muffled through the water, Satoru drifted closer. Just a little bit. Just enough to see the color of his eyes.
For the first time in his life, Satoru desperately wanted to know what it felt like to breathe air.
Satoru has always been interested in people. One day, he gets too close to remain unnoticed. And then he falls in love.

Yuuji barely got a second to refuse before Gojo slipped it over his pink locks. It was a shame to see them hidden, but he’d rather not get caught with a missing person. It made things much harder in general if he wanted to purchase a property.
Second, Satoru stopped Yuuji from taking another step away from the car by caging him against the open door. Yuuji squeaked quietly, red swarming his cheeks, probably from embarrassment. Satoru made sure Yuuji was paying attention before speaking, “Make a single noise, and you’ll regret it, human.”
The look on Yuuji’s face was priceless. Reminding him of their disparities species-wise was the easiest and fastest way to scare him into not calling for help and getting some nuisance human to interfere. Yuuji just didn’t know he was in safe hands yet; Satoru needed time to convince him.
[] Satoru and Yuuji's new 'comfortable' life at sea. And despite Yuuji's trial and errors, he has to face the fact that it's not as terrible as he thougth it'd be.

As if indulging Yuuji, Satoru’s head turned downward even as he continued swimming. An angelic face on a demon, Yuuji thought.
The water sloshed around them, bubbles dragging past their bodies and disappearing behind them. Satoru’s body moved with the current, motion pushing them forward that would have been weird for a body with two legs. For whatever Satoru was, it was easy to cut through the waves.
“My little Yuuji.” He murmured.
The rock ceiling above swallowed the last of the stars, the faint light of the moon, and darkness sealed Yuuji inside.[] Yuuji takes advice from someone he shouldn't, and regrets not swimming home as soon as he saw the stranger hovering in the same secluded cove.
