Summary
The smile on Martin’s lips broadens. He hasn’t been to an establishment like this in quite a while, and he’s enjoying the light-heartedness and the hint of festivity in the patrons’ clothes after those long months at sea, after their soot, after the grease and the noise of the ship’s belly.
Or, instead of going to the open-air dance hall after his return from sea, Martin visits a gay bar in Naples. Instead of sleeping with Margherita, he spends the night with a young man from Calabria, one Primo Nizzuto.
(Set before the events of “Trust”, in the late 1960s. Since it’s never been clearly established, when ME takes place, and since I wanted a slightly younger Primo, this seems a fair choice. ;D)

“Thank you so much,” the man breathed, laughing a little. Nicolò noticed his Italian had a slight foreign accent of some kind. “You just saved my life there, surely.”
“Of course, it’s nothing,” Nicolò told him, attempting to shrug it off, but the man shook his head.
“No, it’s not nothing. You saved me.” The man put a hand on his arm. “Let me bring you to my family’s home for a meal as a thank you, at least. They will want to show their appreciation somehow, no doubt.”
Working-class sailor Nicolò meets Yusuf, the artist son of a rich merchant, when he saves Yusuf at the dock. They learn more about each other and begin a relationship that neither of them would have expected.
