Summary
Once Upon a Time there was a hero known as Galavant, who suddenly lost all hope after being rejected by his true love Madalena for a life of royalty. A year has passed and our hero was not the valiant knight he once was, until one day his life changed. Princess Isabella begs Galavant to save her kingdom to free her family, while secretly working for King Richard. This is when a young lady named Sarah arrived from a place called "Reality" after being sent by a wicked witch to join our story.
I do not own the rights to Galavant, this all belongs to ABC/Disney and Dan Fogelman
Songs belong to Alan Menken and Glenn Slater -

“I'm the smart one,” one of the monks begins.
“I'm the cute one,” another croons.
“I'm the shy one,” the other monks mime peeking out from their hands as he looks around, blushing.
“I'm the bad boy,” the tallest monk sings, stepping aside to reveal a figure leaning against one of the stone pillars that support the castle entrance.
“And I’m the one who doesn’t sing,” Beau says.
(An extra player ends up working security at King Richard and Roberta’s wedding.) -

Summary
The opening number seems clear enough: Madalena and Galavant were madly, hopelessly, genuinely in love. Yet the Madalena we meet at her wedding to Richard -- to say nothing of the woman she proves to be as the series progresses -- doesn't seem to have been in love with Galavant at all. Surely both these stories can't be true...
...but then again, this is a musical. And a fantasy, since there's an actual wizard in it. And that being the case, there just might be an explanation.
