Adder dropped their things in the doorway and did a quick circuit of their quarters. There was a fire, a basin of water, one bed as wide as two of their pallets, and a wardrobe with nothing inside of it. "Janosh thinks Pisek lose his fucking mind, to let us in here."
"Probably did," Adder said, rushing to the door and throwing the bolt as if the man would suddenly come to his senses. "Men like him go crazy so close to death."
"I guess he has to fix the whole fucking castle anyway," he allowed, sitting down on the bed with a heavy huff. "We'll enjoy it, while it lasts. The Devil's more likely to fuck it all up than we are anyway, and they have to give him a room."

A stray strand of wet hay slides into his eyes and he blinks and tosses his head to clear his vision, but it slides right back, and brings more with it, and Janosh thinks about how it always does that even when dry and bound back, tied with a leather strip at the nape of his neck, thick and unruly and impossible to contain in its sheer amount.
Shame, he thinks and shakes his own head to dislodge the cut off strands caught behind his ears and collar. Takes out the small carved wooden comb and runs it through the freshly shortened strands once, gives a cheeky pass to the moustache as well for the hell of it. Doesn't put it back as he intended. Instead, his eyes stay fixed on Adder, on the mess he calls hair, and his hand itches to run through it, to sort it out, to give it some sort of form and shape, even if just to stop the infernal bitching and scratching Adder does on the daily.
