Summary
Saito Hajime is 21 years old and the Third Unit Captain of the Shinsengumi. There's a war going on that he's been fighting since he was 18. He doesn't believe the stories of the manslayer, Battousai, an assassin so deadly not a single target had lived to tell the tale. But one night a fellow unit member is attacked - and he lives long enough to tell Saito what Battousai looks like.
(Saito lives through the height of the Battousai hysteria.)
