The Gaang did not intend to adopt a strange masked child who may or may not be a spirit, but it's not like they could just leave them on their own. Besides, if they're already traveling to the North Pole they might just run into whoever the child is looking for on the way.

In this first act, Sonic struggles to come to terms with what happened in the Shatterverse, accidentally bonds with Shadow, and worries all of his friends. Then, a Void crystal falls from the sky, and someone sends a message through the Paradox Prism. Tails seems confident he can figure out what's up. He just needs some stuff from a robotic parts trader in Seashell Town. Sonic would've appreciated a heads-up about the bandit problem, but he'll deal.
Written during the Sonic The Hedgehog Big Bang 2024.
