After an hour of searching through his book of ciphers, he finally cracked it. The person who had written the note had changed every letter to the letter above it in the alphabet but added 8 every time there was a new letter, so A would be B but then B would be J and so on, cycling through the alphabet over and over. Gulf found himself grinning. 'Clever.'
Although he was sure he had the right code, the note itself contained a very confusing message:
‘The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?’

They had been close to twenty when Richie had leaned in close, stopping nervously right in front of Eddie's face. The smell of tar from a hot roof hung in the air, and Eddie had turned away. We shouldn't, he had said. Let's not ruin what we have, Rich.
Eddie was difficult, hard to love. Ragged edges that pulled your skin raw. Richie would be disappointed and bored, and he would leave. Staying friends was easier.
