He was getting tired himself and let his cheek rest on the mattress. “Know that I promise to do everything in my power to take care of you. All right?” He brought his gaze up and hoped he was making eye contact through the wolf's bangs. “You don't have to struggle anymore. You're safe; they're safe. It's okay.”
Maybe it was the fever, because there were no alarm bells. No red flags. Nothing to indicate this human was a threat - something to fear and defend against. The wolf's instincts had been assuaged as he settled into the notion that he was protected and provided for here. In fact, the way he was being consoled made him feel like a pup being cared for by his mother.

The boy turned Lance to him, their faces a short distance away, purple eyes fixed on his, and Lance's treacherous heart skipped a beat.
"Blue Spirit, I'm Red Warrior. Do you really not remember me?"
At that point, Lance began to break out in a cold sweat. Of course, he couldn't remember him. Lance wasn't the real one.
(In which, due to a stupid stunt, the seventeen-year-old Lance dies and finds himself in the body of a villain of his best friend's favourite graphic novel, trying not to attract too much attention. Too bad for Lance, Keith doesn't make things easy for him at all.)
