Summary
Mike honestly doesn’t know why he’s there, but somehow he finds himself poised to knock on Nancy’s door – when it opens abruptly in his face.
“You just gonna stand there like a weirdo? I heard you walk up to my door, like, five full minutes ago," she says. So, he wordlessly enters. Follows her. Sits on the bed next to her, feeling numb and so lost. She’s looking at him expectantly, but he doesn’t know what to say – doesn’t even know where to start. He looks down at his hands in his lap and starts picking at the hangnail he has.
“What made you choose Jonathon?” is what spills from his mouth suddenly.

Will’s close-mouthed smile turns shy now, and Mike watches how it moves that one dark freckle between his nose and the left corner of his mouth. Will’s gaze flickers down in a brief moment of thought. He looks timid, almost bashful. And then he reaches out to Mike’s chest and gently pushes him, still wearing that soft expression that feels a little too...
Mike’s breath catches.
He isn’t quite sure if he’s being delusional, but he’s almost certain that Will just flirted with him.

“It’s not my fault you don’t like girls,” is what he’d spat at that small, furiously upset version of Will. The regret had flooded him almost instantly. It comes back now, after hearing the words anew. It replays in an endless loop in his brain, because he now knows that the young boy had internalized the venom and kept it with him – a coating of poisonous hurt that he’d buried deep in his chest, forever scarring his insides until he spat it back out.
