Summary
“Apollo.” Artemis tugs on his sleeve. “We need to leave.”
He can see the sheer panic on his twin’s face, the wide eyes and darting gaze; it snaps him out of his stupor, but he doesn’t heed her words. His eyes are drawn back to the center of the arena, to where Athena is still collapsed on the floor—there are too many wounds to count and there must be more that he can’t see, and his sister’s glow is flickering in and out, like a candle that will go out with the next gust of wind.
“I can’t leave Athena like that! Not when-”
Not when the same thing happened to my son Asclepius. Not when he felt the wrath of the lightning bolt and I couldn’t save him.
(or: when trying to treat Athena’s injuries, Apollo is barely holding it together)

Summary
Since you claim you’re so much wiser, why’s your life spent all alone? You’re alone!
I’m alone because I work more efficiently that way, because it’s easier than trusting others only to be let down again.
Really? Or are you alone because you’re selfish and prideful and vain, because nobody wants you to plague their life?
Athena tries to take a deep breath to clear her mind, to silence the voice in her head that is both Odysseus and herself, but her chest hurts too much for that to be an option. Cracked ribs, probably. She’ll be lucky if they aren’t broken.
(or: post-God Games, Athena is struggling with the mental and physical fallout of what happened in the arena)

Summary
And, no matter how hard they train or how much they strategize, both Ares and Athena are vulnerable to elemental attacks. It’s impossible to send a fleet of soldiers out after a tsunami, to take down fire with a skillful sword strike. Impossible to craft a shield that will protect its wielder from lightning—metal conducts electricity, wood will burn, leather will conduct electricity if wet and burn if dry.
Athena has always carried two shields: the Aegis, and the security of being Zeus’s favorite child. Neither of them protected her in the arena that night.
(or: after God Games, a late-night visit causes Ares and Athena to realize how much they have in common)
