Summary
Haleth woke with a gasp. Her hand went to her throat, but the small amulet she'd worn for decades was not there. She had been so tired, so weary. Life in the Forest of Brethil was hard, far harder than she had ever expected. Her people had dwindled. Life was grim. She'd thought, perhaps, to broach the subject of going East once more, to appeal to Lord Caranthir, to see if his offer of aid still held true.
Haleth had gone to sleep a stiff, aching, old woman. The face that greeted her in the reflection of her wash basin was a maid she had not been for sixty years.

Summary
By the time the eagles had deposited them on top of the great bloody rock someone called the Carrock Lobelia had had enough. She was wet through, bleeding, her umbrella needed mending and she desperately wanted a bath. But of course that was when the great broody one decided to throw a fit and act a fool...right up until he decided to hug Bilbo and smile in a way that made his whole face light up.
Lobelia wanted to vomit.
She held up her dented umbrella as the dwarves turned those wondering eyes to her. “Don't even think about it.”

Summary
Sauron eyed the hand held out to him but took it in the end. His feet felt unsteady under him. His head spun. He let go the second he was upright and standing on his own. “I do not understand you. At all.”
“That has been said to us before, believe it or not.”
“Oh I do believe it,” Sauron muttered. He fell into step with them, the half – the hobbit on one side, the elf on the other. He did not know why it felt...easier to walk with each step he took. Why it felt easier to breathe. “I dislike you both. Intensely.”
“Oh, the feeling is mutual.”
“Bilbo.”
“He said it first!”
It was going to be a long walk to the shores of the sea.

Summary
In a place Beyond, where the Gift of Men brought the souls of mortal men beyond furthest reaches of Arda, beyond even the borders of Aman, dark eyes opened in a dark place, where limits were suggestions more than rules. Those dark eyes blinked, the colors of that Flame Imperishable shifting across the great expanse. Then did those dark eyes blink again and Lúthien Tinúviel remembered her name.

Summary
Glorfindel turned at the sound of Ecthelion's voice. His partner joined him at the window, looking down into the kitchen garden below. It had been days since Erestor had taken the children back to that little area, days since the servants had reported that all three had been asleep in the kitchens, with the remains of a midnight snack still on the table beside them.

Summary
Vairë sat before her loom as the world outside her Hall began to fracture and fall away. Her Námo was guarding the doors, a sword clumsy in his hands, even as the hordes of Melkor's tortured prisoners swarmed over their once-fair land. In front of her the tapestry was shredding, even before her eyes. There was nothing she could do. Any knots she tried to make, any lives she tried to save, all of it dissolved under her fingers, like smoke on the wind.

Summary
Erestor rubbed at his temple, feeling the pain pulse inside his head. The world was wobbling around him, as was his stomach, lurching with each step he took. The children had been almost hysterical when they had made it back to the room, both of them latching onto Erestor and refusing to let go. Erestor had to rock the both of them to sleep, even as his head swam and his vision blurred at the edges. The twins had finally nodded off and Erestor had gotten them back into bed and was now on his way down to the kitchens to see if he could make himself a cup of athelas tea to help with the pain and nausea.

Summary
I love you, the voice of their little father whispered into their ears as Elrohir – Amras – clung onto Elladan's – Amrod's – shoulders as tight as he could. I always will.
“What is going on? How...how did we...”
“A chance to change the world,” Amrod said, clutching his twin back just as hard. “We have one chance. We cannot waste it.”
It was the only Oath he meant to make.

Bilbo sat on a bench by the bubbling river than ran through the heart of Rivendell, feeling the warm sun on his skin and the way the wind whispered through the little nook he'd found. Summary
What was he going to do?
It was a thought that sat with him for a long, long time, even as the scent of freshly baked bread wafted up from the kitchens and the bright sound of the cook's voice echoed up the stairs. It would be with him as he sat and watched the fire burn to cold ashes, as his father rose and left for the day, not thinking that his only son was still in his rooms and had not run out after having a piece of sweet bread spread with jam and butter, going forth to learn all that he could from the day.
Fëanor sat there and thought and thought and thought as day turned to night and then back to day. And, by the time his father came knocking on his door, a worried frown on his face, Fëanor still had no idea what he was going to do. But he knew that he would have to do something. This time he would be patient. This time he would listen. This time...this time...
This time he would get it right. And he would not lose anyone else, ever again.
