Summary
" All of his life, he’d been surrounded by pilots and RIOs who were his role models, his guides. His father had been placed on some unattainable pedestal, out of Bradley’s grasp, and he’d only ever hoped that maybe, one day, he’d get to feel everything his father felt in the backseat of an F-14 Tomcat with his best friend at the stick and maybe, just maybe, he’d feel a little closer to the whispers of the memories he didn’t have.
Because, unlike the rest of them, Bradley didn’t have the memories to hold on to for the rest of his life. He’d lost his father before he could even remember knowing him, and all he had left of him were the patchwork words of a ragtag bunch of sailors, a grieving widow, and pictures of a life he would never have again. All he’d ever known was what he was missing. "
Bradley Bradshaw was too young to remember his father in the years following his death. The effects of that are what chart the course of his entire life thereafter. And in the end, his family does more harm than good in trying to fix something he'd never seen as broken. His journey to healing is not easy nor is it linear.

Summary
" He runs a hand through his hair and heaves one final sigh before speaking again, “Truth be told kid, I didn’t want to pull your papers, it wasn’t even my idea,” he stares now, somewhere off into the distance, rather than meeting Bradley’s eyes, “It was your mom’s.”
And suddenly, everything makes so much sense in hindsight. Bradley tips his head, running back through the entire conflict from the moment his mom died to the end of the mission, the memories playing out in his mind like a rewound tape. “Huh,” he finally says, something between a sigh and a laugh. "
Bradley and Mav finally have that talk they promised.

aka, my take on the missing conversation scene where Mav and Bradley sit down and work their shit out in TGM.
