This is straight-up fluff. Straight-up super, sweet and simple tooth-rotting fluff of Payton and River in New York during the time of the Hobart vs Standish senatorial race.
My partner (who is lovely and incredible and very supportive of my interest in "The Politician") makes me feel all sorts of happy, giddy, heart-fluttering emotions and I wanted to channel them in this fic, especially since I have been in a rut of constant Hobarkley angst. So, for my lovely girlfriend who only knows the second-hand explanation of the show and it's silly cast of characters, thank you for giving me the support and kindness and sweetness that you do. If you see this at all, that is. <3 (I hope it's alright that I wrote a silly fic for my favorite fandom in your honor, tehe :))

River is gone and even years later, Payton is still haunted by him.
This fic is inspired by the song, "Everything in You" from the Fionna and Cake soundtrack, because, like everyone else who's seen the show, that song is making me feel so many *feelings*. So, I put all of those *feelings* with my favorite tragic, sad lovers. To sum things up, it's the season one finale, but without the aspect of Payton getting back on the rat-race for presidency or State Senate. It's him feeling for a longer amount of time (for better and for worse).

Originally inspired by the... Five Nights at Freddy's fan song... "Never Be Alone" by Shadrow, I thought of not only Payton being haunted by River's ghost, but also how much seeing something so gruesome would truly affect him. Especially with a show like Assassins as the Saint Sebastian school musical... I think that gun sound effect would have more of an impact. So, here's me exploring that!

A year and a half ago today, I wrote a fic called, "The Simple and Mundane Parts of Life That Payton Hobart Is Quite Fond Of," which was a fic that channeled all of my new, exciting, and gushy feelings for the absolute love of my life. Well, we've been together for a year and a half now, and I wanted to explore my more "settled" (or as her and I call it, "calm love") feelings as well as some of the natural challenges that come with relationships and healing.
This can be seen as a prequel-sequel for, "The Simple and Mundane Parts of Life That Payton Hobart Is Quite Fond Of" (Jeez, who let me make the title that long?), but you don't have to read that fic to enjoy this one!

"It's more than that for me. What if I'm just wired differently?"
I've had the headcanon that Payton is on the spectrum since I first watched the show. As an autistic person, I see myself in him a lot and he has been a character I have felt great empathy for and comfort in. Do I agree with everything he does? Of course not! Autistic people are not all good or all bad; media portrayals tend to skew to one extreme or the other.
I wanted to explore my headcanon further and/or explicitly, and what time to do it than Autism Acceptance Month?
Disclaimer: This is my exploration of the series through the lens of him being autistic, taking from my own experience in some ways and individualized, Payton-specifically-created other ways. This is not a catch-all, monolithic view of people on the spectrum!

Randomly nostalgic, I got into listening to a lot of old Dodie Clark, Chloe Moriondo, and Luz (2019-2020-era) and thought to myself, “Hobarkley… but sapphic, hmm… good idea!”
