After Luke learns the truth of his parentage on Bespin, he becomes a shadow of himself, consumed with self-loathing, unable to eat or sleep, as his newly discovered father hounds him through their Force bond.
Luke rebuffs him for as long as he can, but eventually he can't fight off sleep any longer, where Darth Vader is waiting to talk 'sense' into his stubborn son. Luke really, really just wants his father to understand him (and to rest).

Vader wrestles with a hurt child he has no idea how to comfort, confronts a very angry Leia Organa and arrives at an upsetting and difficult truth - that the best way to protect Luke may be to let him go.
