When the lecture was finally over, Adaine packed her stuff away before turning halfway in her seat and gently shaking Fig.
“Fig,” she whispered, ignoring the crowd of students passing.
“Fig,” trying again, Adaine raised her voice slightly, but still no response.
“Fig!” finally she just poked her nose.
Fig jumped slightly, then opened one eye to glare at Adaine before closing it again.
“Unless you have coffee then go away,”
Adaine rolled her eyes affectionately.
“I’ll buy you some,”
“Alright, let’s go,”

“...fine…” Fig smiled before throwing the bark back at Adaine and missing, “well I’ve been severely injured twice in the space of a minute, at least help me up?”

With a grunt, Fig settled back down, and Adaine poured liquid from a flask onto a pad of cloth.
“Um,” Great, back to the pitying, soft voice, “I asked for an antiseptic, and the jacket… well it’s whisky I think so this is going to sting… a lot.”
“Just do it,”
Adaine dabbed at the wound on Fig’s arm and neck with a tenderness and care that made Fig want to scream more than the sharp, stabbing pain of the alcohol.
