“He did care for you, Yassen. Maybe not in the way you hoped he would, but he did care.”
Yassen stared a moment at Ian, more shaken than he cared to admit even to himself, trying to figure out whether Ian Rider was lying; but all he could see on the other man’s face was something soft, possibly akin to pity. He looked like he was waiting for an answer. Yassen eventually gave him a brief nod.
“What did he mean to you?” Ian asked.
He was the last person who treated me like a person instead of a tool, Yassen thought; but he said nothing. Ian Rider would be a fool to expect a truthful answer, anyway.
