The Particular Friends series began when I read "Desolation Island" and "The Fortune of War" and was horrified to learn that in the gap between the books, our heroes had visited Australia and POB had just skipped right past it. I was horrified, and promptly set out to write something about Stephen in Australia with his wombat. Thus began my career as a fanfic author.

The first few stories in this series are what I called "oakum" stories: gap-fillers, in other words. As I head into "The Surgeon's Mate" and "The Ionian Mission" I start branching out a bit, and then when I come to "Treason's Harbour" I go quite AU with "Rumour's Harbour".
