“It feels like I’m playin’ with fire, when it comes to him.” Atsumu continued, lowering his voice. He glanced around, making sure no one was listening. “If I say one wrong thing, it explodes. And we fight, and one of us gets hurt all over again.”
“Loving someone hurts.” Osamu responded thoughtfully. “But it shouldn’t burn.”
Atsumu was burned. He had been burned over and over again.

Summary
“Awww, Omi-kun, didn’t know ya would get so attached.” He deflected quickly.
“Don’t call me that.” Kiyoomi muttered. There was an awkward pause, neither of them speaking. They were waiting, waiting to address it and what to do next. Atsumu zipped up his bag, sighing slightly. This could be the last time you see him. The traitorous voice whispered, reminding him of Kiyoomi’s-- his soulmate’s-- limited time. He pushed it down, shaking his head.
“Bye, Miya.” Kiyoomi said, his voice sounding slightly off. “See you around.”
“Bye, Omi--” He started. The door slammed shut, and Atsumu was alone. He sighed again. Damnit. He should have gotten his contact information. He should have asked him out. Atsumu slung his bag over his back and walked out of the room, disappointed to see that Kiyoomi was long gone.
Maybe next time.

“Y’know Omi, I think I’m falling more in—“ Atsumu started, casting a lopsided smile down at Kiyoomi. He gasped and stood up sharply, knocking a water glass off of the table. It hit the ground with a crack, the shards seeping through the loose wooden plates. Water dripped down the table, pooling at his feet. Atsumu stumbled back, his expression shocked.
“Don’t say it!” Kiyoomi shouted, frenzied into panic mode. “You can never say those words to me, remember?”
OR

Summary
“Wake up, Sakusa. We were in a war. Your soldiers killed my best friend and my father. Your cousin dragged me away from my home. Your family took everything from me. I’m not your friend.” Atsumu said, his voice rising. Kiyoom took an involuntary step back, flinching again. Everything he said was true, and it cut like a knife.
“My kingdom won. My family won. You lost, Atsumu. These are the consequences.” Kiyoomi retorted.
“Thanks, Omi. Really needed a reminder.” The blonde said dryly, laying against the bed. Kiyoomi remembered holding his hand when they were ten, how he helped him get through his fear. And now Kiyoomi couldn’t do the same, he couldn’t help him. They were opposites, and had to remain that way. They couldn’t be friends, they couldn’t even be mutuals. Atsumu was the enemy, and he clearly didn’t want to reforge any bond either.
OR

“I need you to lie to me, and tell me that I’m a good person.” Atsumu begged suddenly, cutting off Kiyoomi. He clutched Kiyoomi’s arm tightly, his trembling increasing by tenfold. “That I’m not a failure. That I’m worth something, that I’m valuable. That people like me, that I’m okay—“
“Atsumu.” Kiyoomi cut him off, horror bleeding into his voice. “What— where is this all coming from?” Atsumu blinked at him, his mouth dry.

Summary
Ever since he was little, Miya Atsumu had been told one thing.
Kitsunes and humans were never meant to mix. They weren’t supposed to engage, they weren’t supposed to speak or communicate, and they most certainly weren’t supposed to fall in love. It would be breaking tradition, as Shinsuke Kita had put it. And tradition was vital to the survival of the shrine, because the natural order kept the shrine alive…
Or something like that. He thought it was stupid.
OR
Atsumu, a young kitsune, encounters Kiyoomi, a mortal, on patrol. Neither of them could guess how much it would change their worlds.

“Quit messing around. I’m not a stranger.” Atsumu said, his voice wavering. He stepped back on unsteady feet. Kiyoomi shook his head once.

Summary
Atsumu sighed, studying his boyfriend. He was about to speak when Kiyoomi said those words and consequently sent his mind spiralling. Atsumu sat up sharply, narrowing his eyes. Kiyoomi’s tone was flippant, causing another knot of anxiety to worm its way into his chest.
“What.” Atsumu said, trying to sound neutral, albeit failing miserably. He sounded harsh and tense. Kiyoomi gazed down at him, one eyebrow raised. “What did ya mean by that?”
“One of the first things I ever said to you was that. I asked you on our first date if you were going to ruin me.” Kiyoomi said slowly. Atsumu pushed himself away, glaring at him.
OR
Kiyoomi is bad at saying what he means, and Atsumu took it too literally.

Summary
Omi--” He started, confused. Kiyoomi waved his hand, cutting him off. He shut his jaws, fighting back tears.
“Atsumu, do you blame yourself?” Kiyoomi asked. His voice was mechanical, as if it were a robot speaking. He didn’t sound human. He didn’t sound like the Kiyoomi that Atsumu remembered.
“I—“ He started, still processing. Atsumu could feel tears blurring his vision. Perhaps everything had been a bad dream, the optimist part of his mind supplied. He wanted to believe, but he just couldn’t.
OR
