Summary
Pain sharing soulmates made much more sense than quirk backlash. There was simply no correlation between her quirk use and the phantom pain that sometimes decorated her, like the colored parts on an old apple. But the solution created a new problem. Someone far away was experiencing this hurt first hand.

His limbs felt sluggish now that he had stopped moving, heavy like he had only just climbed out of bed.
“I don’t feel right,” Izuku blurted before he could frighten himself into staying silent. “I wonder—I don’t see anything. But maybe this is someone’s quirk.”

"I got caught in the rain," Izuku said, "So—I'm trying to fix—the pages were sticking together, and—"
"Oh!" Mogami yelped, and she dropped the carton. In half a second she had grabbed it again, turned it back right side up, but most of the contents had already spilled out over the drying papers.

There was still time—Izuku could apologize for bringing him up, for talking this way about someone who had hurt Kacchan so badly. The words wouldn’t come. Even seeing Kacchan hadn’t had the effect he’d been hoping for, hadn’t made him feel any differently.
“The hands guy?” Kacchan said, “Almost killed me twice? Kidnapped me that one time? Tried to kill All Might at the USJ?”
Izuku slipped down off the bed. “Goodnight Kacchan.”
Kacchan stopped dead in his train of thought. He didn’t say anything else as Izuku crept back out into the hall and pulled the door shut behind him.
