Summary
It seemed that the more Ardyn said of himself, the less Lunafreya understood. Yet, curious as she was, she did not dare to pry. The most she could guess, knowing so little of his past, was that he was referring to his odd brand of Starscourge. She had encountered many whose belief had been shaken by this plague, but it had been restored again as soon as she had laid hands on them to draw it out. It was understandable that Ardyn, the one person she could not heal, had lost his faith altogether. (Chapter 12)
Tenebrae and Lucis have been allied against the empire for centuries, but they are fighting a losing war. After a decisive battle, Niflheim forces Tenebrae to surrender and takes the rebellious Prince Ravus captive. Fearing for the life of her brother and the safety of her people, Princess Lunafreya takes matters into her own hands and goes to Gralea to plead their case. However, Emperor Aldercapt’s clemency comes at a price: Lunafreya must replace her mother as Oracle, break her long-standing engagement to Prince Noctis of Lucis, and marry Chancellor Izunia of Niflheim instead.

Summary
Taking a deep breath, Lunafreya gazed out over the rugged Galahdian landscape, illuminated by setting sunlight—or perhaps it was more fading than setting. The sight of it sent a pang across her heart even as it rekindled her desire to preserve what light remained, and gave her the strength to say what must be said.
After fleeing Insomnia with secrets she was never meant to know, the Oracle Lunafreya seeks out the renegade Prince Noctis to confide in him the true nature of the prophecy. Their faith in one another may grow to supersede their faith in fate, but even as Lunafreya supports the King of Kings along his journey, she also finds herself beginning to trust her estranged husband and predestined enemy, Ardyn Izunia. As the star teeters on the brink of annihilation, it falls to the Bladekeeper's victims—past and present—to rewrite their destinies and ignite the dawn, or embrace the darkness, on their own terms.
