Oooh, yeah, I've seen a lot of peoole being interested in this! I think it's a good idea, we already have anonymous posting for authors, I think it's fair that commenters receive such option as well. It would allow those in a very mundane position of "i love this kinky smut but im shy" mental comfort of commenting anonymously while also allowing the site staff to take action if things get abusive
Plus, I can imagine it would also encourage account making. A lot of users who don't make accounts do so because they don't like the idea of having a consistent identity tracked in how they interact. If they can still interact but do so completely--outwardly--privately, that would likely be very appealing.
We don't have anonymous posting for authors. The anonymous collection is not official and its owner could de-anon everything in it if they ever wanted to.
Anyone can make an anonymous collection. If you make a second account, make an anonymous collection on that account, and add your works to that collection, no one but you (and technically some of the admin of the site) can see that you are the author or de-anon you. There is no specific anonymous collection to use, just make your own on a second account.
Yeah only issue with that is that the owner of those collections can still see who posted to them, but that's a much smaller group than publicly posting would be.
(I will say that a few years ago I made an anonymous collection on an account that I made just for this purpose and purposely made the login something I cannot remember and didn't save it, so I can't even login to the account if i wanted to as far as Im aware. So that's about as close to truly anonymous as you can get without making your own collection on a second account)
I am not in favor of this, since my experience is that people are often a lot nastier when they're anonymous, regardless of whether they're technically logged in or not. That's why I disabled anon interaction on Tumblr.
On the flip side, if they're logged in while being anonymously nasty, the database can still track who's who and then blocking could still block the user, or the abuse team could more easily follow up
