Hey so this is going to sound weird and a bit heavy but... thank you for this fic? While obviously not as bad as the Doofenshmirtzes (but honestly what family could be) my family functions similarly with the favoritism thing. My little brother is Roger. I'm Heinz. I'm going off to college, and my brother and I recently had a conversation where he acknowledged this and apologized for being the favorite and letting my mom yell at me so much. While my little brother is honestly a great kid and usually a good ally, I've also recently had most of my family admit that they all knew that I was being treated worse than my brother, and that they talked about it behind our backs without actually doing anything about it, so to say I found this fic at a good time would be an understatement. I know that this is just a fanfic, but it helped me process a lot of things. I'm sorry, this is a bit heavy, but I just wanted to say that this fic means a lot to me, so thank you for writing it. On a lighter note, your writing is just really good. The dialogue all sounds super natural and the descriptions and mood are great! Roger is a hard character to write as anything but a smarmy asshole and you really managed to make him sympathetic and human without erasing the fact that he helped contribute to Heinz's mistreatment, which is quite the feat, and I applaud you for that. Even without my current personal bias, I can tell this is an amazing fic and that you're super talented. This fic is incredible, and I can't really say anything much other than that. I only found it a few days ago, but I've read it at least five times since then. I think your fanart is lovely and I'm about to reblog it. More than anything, I'm glad that what I wrote could have a positive impact on your life in any way. That's really the most I can ask for as a writer.
The goal of this story was originally to figure out who Roger was, other than "smarmy asshole", so I'm glad to hear I succeeded on that front as well! I've seen a couple fics where he's cast as a full tilt villain, but it always seemed somehow untrue to the feel and nature of the show. People don't always know how to process their own priveledges, or what to do with them, especially kids.
Anyways thank you so much for taking the time! This review made me very happy on a frustrating morning.
