    I like the schmoopy version! I can see how it would be a good darkfic set-up, but this feels more true to character. Love Dean "sharing" the whiskey haha. And Sam's reaction is very reminiscent of the end of Safe House! "How messed up are our lives that this is actually comforting" etc 😂

      thanks for this lovely comment. i'm ultimately really glad i went with the schmoopy version, both because it ended up working well but also because it's reminded me how much people enjoy a softer sort of fic sometimes. we all need a bit of comfort! (even when, like you alluded with Safe House, sometimes for the winchesters that comfort looks a little skewed!)
