    I forgot to mention this but I was like “omg ‘Desiderata’!” when Dean fed Sam whiskey (yay for recurring themes!) Something about the infantilization plus the Winchesters’ preferred crutch of alcohol is so Good…like it’s mildly more acceptable to both of them bc it involves this adult element of an intoxicant

      ahhh yess thank you! i definitely need to get around to posting the next chapter Desiderata. i took a break to work on some other stuff including a heaven fic that's 90% done, but now i just keep re-outlining the next sections instead of just finalizing and posting what i have written for the next chapter lol.

      but yes i'm all about recurring themes, i like to turn something over in my head a few different ways to see how it shakes out, and the whiskey thing is no different. dean, as i see him, really has a fundamental need to ensure sam's basic needs are met, including food and sustenance (and i have thoughts about how this extends to why he throws sam at girls in the early seasons in an entirely platonic gencest and canon-compliant way too. he experiences gratification knowing all of sam's needs are met, even the ones he can't or doesn't want to meet himself. you can see how that relates to Desiderata in a more fanon wincest, less canon gencest way :D).

      anyway, that need to fulfil sam's needs sometimes goes a bit sideways, and you've hit the nail on the head with how bringing whiskey into it makes it "mildly more acceptable to both of them". it's like "we are adults. see? we drink whiskey. yes i am nursing sam with said whiskey and yes we're both comforting our inner child and no it's not weird don't ask any more questions" :D
