          Alternate version of c137 "Troubled memories" :

          Jet shrugs awkwardly. He'll do better, he says, but what's done is done. It's not like he can force himself to regret, anyway.
          And there's just nothing Zuko can answer to that.
          Nothing, except "I burned down a village once. Tried to, at least." Jet stares at him, dumfounded. "The Avatar made an Unagi spit water on it to put it down."
          Silence. Then -
          "What the fuck Zuko," Jet says, laughing as silently as he can, "I thought you were a good one !"
          He clutches his stomach, tries to speak again but cannot manage to, instead giggling madly until he falls to the side. Zuko doesn't really get what's so funny about this, but seeing Jet sprawled on the ground laughing at Zuko's mistakes, not in judgement, but as someone who made the same terrible decisions and lives with their weight every day -
          It feels warm.

          ... Toph would probably be even more unsettled by this version of events, though. Like "Stalker tried to do a mass-killing, Sparky apparently did too, and now they're laughing about it. What, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck". Good thing it didn't happen haha

            I had the Unagi bit the same in my head lmao. Imma see if I can bully someone to write this conversation while they're at a bar or something. I feel like hard alcohol and confessions should be involved, doesn't really fit here in this fic though. Thank you for putting this into my head now.

              .... I feel like in the context of a bar, Jet would be doing shots of tequila, and then choke on a lemon when Zuko talks about the Unagi. Wonder what Zuko would drink....

                I'm torn between him having straight rum or just sake. A small voice in my head is screaming he'd take shots of water, pretending it's wodka just to fuck with Jet. But i don't Zuko's powerful enough to pull that stunt.

                  Yeah, Zuko can't lie, even to fuck with Jet, unfortunately for him (and fortunately for Jet, probably)
                  Sake sounds good for Zuko though ! He feels like he'd be a lightweight... Two cups and you'll find him with his head on the counter, mumbling about whatever shit the universe threw at him this week. Four and he'll actually start laughing. Five and he sleeps.
