Reminded me of Matrim Cauthon's weapon. Was that ever named a glaive in the books? Love the structure of the story; the flashbacks illuminate the goings-on in the here and now at just the right moments. This should also be tagged BAMF!Lydia. "I'm carrying a flamethrower!" Priceless.
