Oh, this is wonderful! Minthara and Wyll play off each other so well here; their voices are spot on and the understated development of feelings between them is great. I love Minthara's reaction to Wyll's selflessness (thinking of Karlach's fate before he worries about his own, even when confronted with the horror of what he might become) and how her initial cynicism towards his "hero-posturing" evolves into Something Else Entirely.
“No argument there. But still, the very possibility saddens me. Strong people don't deserve just to endure,” He pulls his gaze from the window, from the endless rivers of fire and the chaos of the Blood War, and locks with hers. Her eyes, red and burning like the very sky of Avernus, meet his. “Strong people deserve to be happy."
Minthara finds herself with no reply.
Aaahhh, that's such a Wyll line!! And the way it shakes Minthara's worldview enough to render her speechless for a moment... ♥ Delicious rarepair food.
Thank you, thank you! It's always a joy to see you in the comments section, and I especially appreciate that you always give such heartfelt feedback (and I'm terribly sorry for replying late, wanted to leave a more thoughtful reply, not influenced by flu :D)
This is exactly why I find their potential dynamic interesting. Minthara's upbringing in Menzoberranzan, Lolth's worship, and the whole Underdark hostility have shaped her identity and taught her that cruelty is the answer. And here she observes Wyll who has been through so much, who has been played by devils, still caring for others without expecting nothing in return - I think this is kind of situation where you either start despise the person, or actually develop feelings for them.
And in Wyll's case, she also challenges him the way he needs it. Given that he prefers to keep his problems away from other people's sight, he's kinda surprised to see somebody question his present and his future, so - it was fun to imagine how things could go between these two!
