So what is this about Archive is preparing to deploy a powerful new IP-filtering engine that will block millions of automated bot requests every hour and what can I do to make sure I'm not caught in this massive filter?
Cause someone is saying you need to put something into our powershell but i don't trust it
That’s a scam thing going around. It’s not real, so don’t fuss about it. The troublemakers behind it are trying to get people to delete their fanfic documents, and are using the “IP wall” (which isnt even a real thing) to do so.
Got to admit the thing was convincing to the point that I had opened my PowerShell, but put the code aside in a notepad file until I heard from the Archive and once I had seen your reply i closed it and deleted the thing in the notepad file and will never open my PowerShell to anyone ever
So the code that the guest in the guest comment I saw would have deleted the fanfic files on my computer?
It’s an attempt to add fics to AI scraping. If your documents are all deleted, but your work shows up in an AI generator… then *clearly* it was AI written and there’s nothing the original author can do to show that they wrote the fic originally… so whoops, no DMCA reports can be filed because clearly it was written by AI!
Similar anonymous comments have recently been spammed across the site. These comments were not left by the owners of the accounts associated with these usernames, but instead by a malicious bot impersonating random users. Any assertions in these comments are not true; the bots are merely spamming false accusations in order to alarm or harass AO3 users. As the name is the same as an AO3 user who is not connected with the bot, we've hidden your comment containing the guest commenter's name.
The OTW is aware of these comments and is working to combat them.
We recommend using the "Spam" button to mark any such comments you receive on your own works as spam. Doing so will remove the comment and – while not an immediate fix – will help train our automated spam-checker to reject similar spambot comments in the future.
